Still in Deltaville.....The forecast for October 1: North winds 20 to 25 knots with gusts of 30, waves 4', and it doesn't look any better for the next few days!!
On Tuesday, October 5, Martha, Elaine and Su drove to Richmond to tour Rothesay, the 2010 Symphony Designer House presented by the Richmond Symphony Ochestra League. The home is owned by Anne and George Wayne Anderson who keep their sailboat at Dozier's Regatta Point. Rothesay, a grand English Tudor on the James River, was built in 1913 on 8 acres. Anne met us at the home to give us a personal tour; it started out the four of us and ended with about 15 people tagging along when they realized Anne lived in the home. George and Anne moved all their furniture and belongings out of the home or stashed them in the attic so the designers could decorate the 25+ interior spaces and 12 landscape design areas! It was magnificent and the views from all the rooms of the James River were incredible.
On Wednesday, October 6, the forecast was perfect, and after two weeks, we were anxious to be on our way. We stopped in Portsmouth, Coinjock, Bellhaven, and arrived in Oriental on Saturday, October 9. That night we had dinner at Toucan Grill with Tom & Lisa of S/V Symmetry and Paul & Susan, who now live in New Bern. We hadn't seen either in ages; we met them both in Fort Lauderdale in Janary 2006.
On Monday, October 11, we cruised from the Oriental Marina to Sailcraft Service. Palmetto Moon was hauled and on the hard by noon. The bottom has been peeled and sanded but we don't know how long we will be here...
Jim and Su are both trying to do chores that just don't get done when we are cruising. We have had great meals at our favorite places, visited with many friends who live here or are passing through, and just trying to make the best of the situation -- climbing the ladder, no heat or a/c (space heater or fans), and using facilities on the land.
